Going Deep!
“…Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus.” Matthew 14:29
This past Sunday, we ended with the familiar praise song of “Oceans (Where My Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong UNITED. The chorus is in the form of a prayer…
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
As we sang that on Sunday, I was blown away with the bold audacity of that prayer (and the fact that all 400+ of us sang it!) I challenged everyone that sometime this week, God would bring a situation that had the potential to “take you deeper than your feet could ever wander.” I concluded with praying that every worshiper in attendance would have such an encounter, recognize it as such, and choose to move forward in faith at whatever cost.
Well, I’m here to report that I had my encounter! The details don’t matter, but I was definitely in a situation this week where I could advance with God or draw back in fear. By the grace of God, I moved forward in trust and He took me deeper than my feet could have ever wandered! The outcome wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for, but that doesn’t matter. I had such a peace in my heart that I had followed Jesus fully and had done what He asked me to do.
How about you? Have you had your moment yet this week? I’d love to hear about it. Email me at Steve.Benedict@gracelifecc.org.
All of us want our faith to be strengthened…that point of strengthening happens when we follow Jesus. And, that always happens outside the boat.
See you on Sunday!
