Living Like a New Creation

Living Like a New Creation

We live in challenging times. Every headline seems to shout fear, division, and despair. It’s easy to get swept along and forget who we really are in Christ. More than ever, the world needs Christians who know who they are — not just in their head, but in their bones. This past Sunday we began our fall series, What If It’s True? — Life-Changing Truths We Believe but Don’t Always Live Out. The first message asked, “What if it’s true that you are a new creation in Christ?” At the close, I painted a picture of what an ordinary day might look like if we lived out that reality. Someone asked if I’d share it in writing, so here it is. I hope it reminds you who you are, and inspires you to live like it’s true this week.

A day living Ephesians 2:1-10

The alarm goes off. Normally you’d groan and dread the day, but today you pause and reflect: I am Loved. Before coffee, before accomplishment, God’s favor rests upon me. Mercy is Lavished fresh every morning. You swing your legs out of bed remembering you’ve been Lifted with Christ — the old you was buried, yesterday’s mistakes included; today you rise again in Him.

You flip on the news. Another round of strife, division, and anger. Crime, injustice, endless debates that fuel fear. The dead-you would spiral into anxiety or despair. But you remind yourself: I am Located with Christ in the heavenlies. That is what’s real. While the world shakes, my seat is secure. I am part of the church of Christ, a movement of God, Living Proof that His grace outlasts every headline.

The drive is slow, full of buggies and stupid drivers, frustration mounts. At work the boss is sharp and coworkers edgy. The old self would stew, retaliate, or be passive aggressive and withdraw. But you remember: I am Liberated by grace — I don’t need to earn approval or prove my worth. Grounded in humility, I can rise above and speak peace into conflict. I can be Living Proof of God’s kindness in a toxic workplace.

At lunch, a coworker pulls you aside. They’re discouraged, weighed down by family struggles. Your first thought is: Noooo, I’m too busy for this. But then you remember: I am God’s Workmanship, Given New Life. Maybe this is one of those Good Works prepared in advance — to listen, pray, and offer hope. The old walk was self-absorption; the new walk is Spirit-led compassion.

Later in the afternoon, your phone lights up with a video feed of violence and destruction. The images are traumatizing, overwhelming. And beneath it all, you sense a deeper current: we are opposed. The “ruler of the kingdom of the air” is still active, sowing destruction. But you don’t cower. I am Seated with Christ in the heavenlies. His authority is mine in Him. Spiritual warfare is real, but I fight not for victory but from victory. God’s kingdom is near — it is here.

You come home weary. The house is noisy, the bills need paying, patience is thin. Dead-you would explode or escape. But alive-you remembers: I’ve been Gifted salvation, not earned. I’m Grounded, no boasting. I’m Created in Christ Jesus for good works. Coaching little league, volunteering at the local charity, even small acts like dishes, homework help, and bedtime prayers are all sacred moments God prepared ahead of time.

At the end of the day, you lay your head down. Instead of checking your phone one last time, you listen to a worship song and pray: “Lord, to the best of my ability, I walked as Your handiwork today. I stumbled, yes, but I also lived as a new creation. I’m learning, growing. Loved, Lifted, Liberated, and Guided into Your purpose.”

And tomorrow? The alarm will ring again. The news will still rage. The enemy will still oppose. But what if it’s true? I am a new creation, alive in Christ. And that changes everything.

  1. This message is a wonderful reminder that each of us were created as a unique Masterpiece by our Heavenly Father, for a special purpose, that He planned specifically for each one’s life; not to copy anyone else.
