God’s call…

God’s call…

“For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

God called a drunken vineyard dresser to collect 2 of each animal, build a giant boat, and thus save humanity from a world-wide flood…that was NOAH.

God called a lying, Canaanite prostitute to pave the way for Israel to conquer the land God promised…that was RAHAB.

God called a moon worshiping, childless pagan couple to become the father and mother of the Jewish nation…that was ABRAHAM and SARAH

.God called a timid wheat farmer with 300 men to defeat an army of 135,000 Midianites…that was GIDEON.

God called an engaged, virgin teenager to be the mother of the Messiah…that was MARY.

God called an old, impoverished woman to help take care of God’s greatest old Testament prophet, Elijah through a terrible famine…that was the WIDOW OF ZARAPHATH.

God called an impetuous, over confident, uneducated commercial fisherman to spread revival and establish the early church…that was PETER.

God called a self-righteous, orthodox Jew to plant Christian churches all over the Roman empire…that was PAUL.

God called the youngest born shepherd boy of an obscure family to become a mighty warrior and Israel’s greatest king…that was DAVID.

God used a beautiful, orphaned Jewish girl to save the people of God from extinction…that was ESTHER.

Sometimes we think God’s call is only for the fantastically gifted, mega-talented, hyper-qualified, super-Christian…but this is almost NEVER the case. The Bible is clear; God uses “the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)

What has God called you to? What has He called our church to? God is always active in our lives…and chances are He is up to a new thing right now for you!

As I mentioned in a letter to the congregation on August 10th, this coming Sunday, the GLCC elders are unanimously recommending to the GLCC congregation that we confirm and celebrate God’s gifting and call, by licensing our own Matt Patti, Jamie Brandon, Jr., and Leland Stephens to the gospel ministry. To clarify, this does not mean that we are appointing new pastors at the church. Rather, it affirms that we believe God has called, equipped, and gifted these men for gospel ministry and a trajectory towards vocational pastoral service. Come CELEBRATE God’s call in your life and in the life of GLCC this Sunday!
